Live Bait Kalk Bay: It was a quickie, and thank goodness for that

Just so disappointing with only a few redeeming factors

Rock Shrimp Tempura (Crispy fried prawns with spicy miso mayo)

Rock Shrimp Tempura (Crispy fried prawns with spicy miso mayo)

I apologize in advance for my explicit hatred of this dish they served me. This has to be some of the worst tempura prawns I’ve eaten. They were hot and seemingly freshly made but this gave them NO graces. The prawn inside was edible but average, it was slightly chewy and VERY cooked. The batter. Oh my goodness. I think they might have used old fish and chip oil to fry the prawns in. The batter was soaked in oil and raw in places. - It tasted like a mouthful of oil and fried flour with a flavor that hit the back sides of the tongue much like vinegar would but with oil. The Mayo was okish - you could taste the miso or whatever it was but still not top notch Mayo and definitely not what you want to eat with an oil dripping tempura (feel bad giving it a name with good memories) Nah brah. Inedible. And a couple people who tried it agreed.

Salmon roses

The quality of the fish (and avo) was good and it tasted fresh. And the price was extremely reasonable. That’s where my praises stop. The sushi was extremely ricey as you can see in the photos and I actually removed the salmon from the rice in order to eat it. Additionally the rice was far too sweet and it even made the soy sauce taste sweet! The ginger was average quality but not great and the salmon roses had excessive amounts of kewpie Mayo or rather the Mayo had a bit of salmon and rice. The Harbour house sushi upstairs is, from memory, better and you also get a great view of the sea there but it is slightly more expensive (well worth it if you ask me - not that it’s miles better - but that’s a review for another day.) It is half price sushi though so the prices were cheap but not worth it to be honest. (See below for a pic of the california rolls referenced)

Salmon California Roll

Salmon California Roll

The location was the biggest redeeming factor of this meal experience, followed by the freshness of the fish and the price of the sushi.
